Developments
Update from the Council of Management on the new developmentsThere has been a great deal of activity at the school during the summer holiday. Several projects have taken place and improved both the facilities Abbotsford has to offer and the general fabric of our beautiful old school.
In the eight week break the old music room has received a fabulous makeover in true Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen style. Anyone visiting Julie Satchwell will have seen how this has been transformed into a modern Administrator’s office. We have also installed a new door entry system. The old school administrator’s office has now become the Head Teachers office.
Major computer cabling upgrades have also taken place to ensure continued expansion of the computer network. This cabling enables internet access within each room in the building. A huge thank you must go to Phil Smith and his team at PCMS for his generosity and expertise, which is much appreciated, thanks also to Lynda Altham for her time and effort on this project.
The Science room has now become the Music and Science room with new carpeting and acoustic slabs to help noise reduction! I’m sure Mrs. Parker can’t wait to get started. Thank you to Gareth Jenkins for creating the acoustic slabs and to Simon Mutton of Mobile Carpet Showroom for his expertise in providing the right type of carpeting to produce the best possible sounds!
In addition we have had a new boiler installed in the main hall and a general reorganisation of the entrance hallway. We look forward to the exciting new displays of artwork and literacy that the children will produce.
The renovation and furnishing of 2, New Street, has been a major project and we are pleased to confirm that we are significantly ahead of schedule and all work will be completed by Thursday 11th September. Following a final inspection by The University of Warwick, mature students will be moving in on Monday 15th September.
Ahmed Shevket from A S Builders has project managed both the main schoolwork and the ten week contract on 2, New Street. Ahmed and his team have worked tirelessly with enthusiasm and energy to ensure both projects have met their deadlines. The University in particularly are extremely impressed with the quality of workmanship that Ahmed and his team have put into the property.
The Lions and particularly John Price and Ed Curtis (grandparents of children at Abbotsford) have generously donated suitable furniture to 2, New Street for the students. Many thanks to them as our budget was ‘very tight’!
In addition to the above we would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Mr Pearce our Site Manager for being happy and available to help everybody who has been working on site during the summer holidays.
